When a mini-split is the right answer

When there is no ductwork, or running new duct would cost more than the cooling is worth. Older El Paso homes, garage conversions, additions and casitas are the usual cases.

A ductless system pairs an outdoor compressor with one or more indoor heads, connected by a small refrigerant line rather than ducting. Each head can be controlled independently, so you are not paying to cool rooms nobody is in. Most models heat as well as cool, which suits a climate with a short winter.

They are not the right answer everywhere. If your house already has sound ductwork throughout, a central system usually makes more sense. We will tell you which case you are in.

What we do with mini-splits

Installation

Single-zone and multi-zone systems, sized and sited so the heads actually reach the spaces you use.

Repair and service

Every make, including systems we did not install.

Maintenance

Filter and coil cleaning matters more on ductless heads than most owners expect, especially with desert dust.

Mini-split questions we get asked

What is a ductless mini-split, and how does it work?

A ductless mini-split pairs an outdoor compressor with one or more indoor units mounted on the wall or ceiling, joined by a small refrigerant line instead of ductwork. Each indoor head is controlled separately, so you only cool or heat the rooms you are using. Most models do both heating and cooling.

Are mini-splits a good choice for older El Paso homes?

Often yes. Many older homes here were built for evaporative cooling and have no ductwork suitable for refrigerated air. A mini-split avoids the cost and disruption of installing new duct, and it lets you treat rooms individually, which suits houses that heat unevenly.

What does Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor mean?

It is Mitsubishi Electric's top contractor accreditation, requiring factory training and ongoing standards. It matters because Diamond Contractors can register systems for the extended manufacturer warranty, which a non-accredited installer cannot.
