Why El Paso furnaces fail in the first cold week
Because they have not run since March. A furnace sits idle through a long desert summer, then gets asked for full output on the first cold night, and the weak component gives out.

Heating questions we get asked
Why does my furnace smell like burning when I first turn it on?
Dust that settled on the heat exchanger over the summer burns off the first time the furnace runs. That smell should fade within an hour or so of running. If it persists, or smells electrical or like burning plastic, shut the system off and call us.
How often should a furnace be serviced in El Paso?
Once a year, ideally in early October before the heating season starts. In a desert climate the bigger enemy is dust and long idle periods rather than heavy use, so an annual check catches what the summer left behind.
My heater will not turn on at all. What should I check first?
Check that the thermostat is set to heat and above room temperature, that the furnace switch and breaker are on, and that the filter is not completely blocked. If all three are fine, the fault is usually the igniter or the flame sensor and needs a technician.
